About Family Learn to Skate
Hershey FSC Family Learn-To-Skate sessions are for anyone who wants to learn to skate.

  • Families, children and adults welcome!
  • All levels of ability
  • For all skating interests: figure skating, recreational, and hockey.
  • New members may join at any time
  • Pay as you go options

Family Learn To Skate is a U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program (the program is also endorsed by USA Hockey). Skaters learn basic skating skills as they progress at their own speed through the Basic Skills Badges Levels 1 through 8 and Freestyle Badges Levels 1 through 6. Each session includes a 15-minute group lesson based on skill level. The remaining time is available for practice. Skaters are also welcome to take private lessions from the professional instructor of their choice during Learn To Skate.

Frequently Asked Questions

When?
Most Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings year-round (summer too!).  Check the Ice Schedule for dates and times. (All dates, times, and locations are subject to change. Sessions are subject to cancellation. We recommend you check the Ice Schedule frequently to confirm sessions.)

Where?
Hersheypark Arena, Hershey PA (located in the Hersheypark Entertainment Complex)

How Much?
New members may join at any time. Sessions are pay-as-you-go.  Pre-registration is not necessary - simply allow a few extra minutes to register at the first session you attend. A $10.00 Annual Basic Skills membership fee applies (valid Sept. 1 to August 31 of each year). Per session fee is $8.00. Punch cards are available to purchase multiple sessions at a reduced rate of $6.00 per session.

Skates
It’s usually best to start with rental skates. Learn some skills first and see what your level of interest will be. Skate rental is available for $2.00 (figure and hockey skates, youth and adult available). When you are ready to purchase skates, we recommend the Neal Wood Skate Shop in Camp Hill.

What to wear?
Hersheypark Arena is a warmer rink. Jeans, yoga pants, leggings, and gym pants are good options. Plus a pair of thin socks to wear with your skates. Dress in layers: t-shirt or long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt and fleece vest or jacket so you can remove items as you warm up. Also bring a pair of gloves. We recommend helmets for children age 5 and under (bicycle helmets are suitable).

Parking
Parking for all HFSC skating programs is free. Please pick up a parking pass at your first session.
